Changing DexCool?

Hi all--thinking it is about time to change out the DexCool in my '96 7.4 Vortec. Remember reading somewhere about DexCool not liking air or air exposure? Any advise or recommendations about changing the old coolant with a new batch of DexCool? Thanks in advance, as always for your input.

RE: Route from Trenton area to Otter Lake

Hi--the route as outlined is just right. We are about five miles from Otter Lake and the route you have is the route we use with our Class A. Have fun!

RE: Geo Metro as a toad?

Hi--we have towed our 94 Geo/5-speed manual for the last 10 years without a problem, but I don't believe that you can tow four down with the automatic without making modifications.

RE: Safari Trek

Hi--We are the proud owners of a 1998 Trek which we have owned for about a year now. We lusted after a Trek since they came out in 1990 but the MajicBed was the sticking point. After 13 years of full-timing and nine (9) different motorhomes, we can say we don't know why we waited so long to buy a Trek. It is by far the best constructed unit we have owned and the bed issue is almost a non-issue. We have adjusted to it and find it no problem in any way. Suggest you search out the TrekTracks group on MSN.com and read all about them. Good luck with your decision. If I can be of any further help, please PM me.

Toad won't track?

Hi all--Need some input on a toad problem. I have towed a '94 Geo Metro for about 5000 miles behind three different class A motorhomes. I seem to have a problem sometimes after making a hard left or right turn with the toad setting up a side to side shimmy. I have to stop and physically turn the steering wheel of the toad to make it follow. What's wrong and what do I do?

RE: Overactive air conditioner?

Hi and thanks so far for your responses. The rig is a 1998 Safari Trek with a Duo Therm rooftop ducted air. Air output seems cold but it cycles too often. Once it shuts down it isn't 10 seconds later when it runs again, then immediately off, then almost immediately back on. After several minutes of this you can hear the compressor kick in and it runs longer until it shuts down again. Thanks for your input.

Overactive air conditioner?

Hi all--had occasion to run the AC for the first time in a coach that is new to us. Duo-Therm rooftop ducted air will go on and cool the coach then shut down. Sounds normal right? Within seconds, it starts up again (well the fan runs) and it will run a few seconds and shut off again. This continues until I can hear the compressor kick in and it will run for a while until it starts the stop and start routine again. Where do I begin to diagnose and repair? Thanks--Charlie

RE: 1974 Winnie Wagon leaky pop-up roof

Hi--suggest you get in touch with the guys and gals of the Yahoo group for classic Winnebagos for support. They are a great group and are very knowledgeable. If you go to Yahoo.com and search groups for classic winnebagos, you can join the group and post your question. I hope this helps you save your classic.

Fiberglas/Filon Roof protection?

Hi all--Looking for suggestions as to how to care for my roof. '98 Safari Trek with a fiberglas/filon roof. What can I use on it to clean and protect it from exposure? Looking for some sort of UV protection. Have been looking at Armor All type products, but they caution not using on or near glass or paint. I'm afraid if I use something like this, I will end up with smearing and streaking on both the windshield and the full-body paint. Any suggestions?

Performance scan tool?

Hi all--Does anyone know of a scan device that plugs into your diagnostic port and gives you a readout of your engine performance while you drive? Ran into a fellow RVer who told me of this device which his son had given him for Christmas which cost about $150. and told you how your engine was performing while you drive. He had left the campground--does anyone know what this device is and the name and manufacturer?

RE: Overdrive on Toyota v-6 motorhome

:)Hello again, Doug
I belong to the Yahoo group for Toyota motorhomes and there are several other Toyota groups. When I bought my Toye, I read as much as I could on these websites. It was recommended that to avoid the hard shift and the shock to the transmission, you should anticipate the downshift out of overdrive and manually take it out of overdrive by releasing the button on the shift lever before it hard shifted down. The ECT control when on will change the shift points of your transmission to hold the shift points longer and give you the feeling of more power and faster acceleration. I suggest you join the Yahoo group and do a web search for the other Toyota groups out there--they provide a vast knowledge of the product through the owners experiences. Their help is invaluable as well because you are able to ask specific questions and you will be surprised by all the responses you will get. By the way, my Toye was manufactured by Winnebago and was just like the Itasca Spirit. The engine was
the V-6 and was the 3.0 liter. Glad I could help--please contact me at chartrue2@aol.com if I can be of any further assistance.

RE: Using a clear plastic window kit on the front windshield?

:)Hi Busskipper--being from New Jersey and full-time, we have lived in class A motorhomes now for 13 years. Some of those years were spent in NJ winters and we discovered the need to cover the front windshield. Found that if we covered the windshield with vinyl, it made a barrier against the cold and stopped the condensation. Over the years, we found that using the clear vinyl that you can buy at Wal-Mart and attaching it to inside the windshield made all the difference! We use the mid-grade thickness so that it is not too heavy and installed snaps (snap kit available at Wal-Mart) so that we can snap it up and take it down quickly. Hope this helps--Charlie

RE: Overdrive on Toyota v-6 motorhome

:)Hi Doug--having just sold our beloved Toye, I can tell you that with the button pushed in the transmission will lock into overdrive when you reach between 50 and 55 mph. If you push the button and allow it to be in the "out" position, the overdrive will not engage. I think you will find that unless you are climbing a grade and the transmission will abrubtly shift down, it is better/more economical to leave the button on so that it can shift into overdrive. I always tried to anticipate the downshift and turn the overdrive off before the hard downshift. From what I read, it was less wearing on the overdrive gear. Are you using the ECT control on the dash which will change your shift points and give you more power under acceleration? Hope this helps. You can PM me or contact me at chartrue2@aol.com if you have more questions. Hope this helps--Charlie

RE: Mulling over Motorhome Interior Design

:)DW and I grew up on boats, both power and sail. I agree with you about the workmanship and attention to detail and storage. We are in our ninth motorhome and we are full-timers. Current unit is a Safari Trek and I must say that we are both impressed with the design and the workmanship. The cabinetry is all hardwood and the jointery (sp?) is superb. Agree with the posts that call the high-end units looking like "cat houses" and wonder who thinks they are beautiful. As they say "some people's taste is all in their mouths!" Good luck with your dream.
